This week, we wanted to provide you with some interesting trends from the world of digital marketing. With CES wrapping up next week, plenty of companies took advantage of the event to puff their chests out and release some pretty staggering numbers. Here's the top news from the first two weeks of 2016.

Facebook Video Ads

When Facebook first hit it big, it was appealing to a lot of small businesses as a marketing tool for a few reasons. First, it was a free platform that granted access to millions of consumers. Second, with a little effort, a small company could look as professional as major corporations in its appearance and reach. But times sure have changed. With Facebook essentially killing organic reach in 2015, small companies are having to up their Facebook advertising budgets to boost their posts and pages in order to have any meaningful consumer engagement. Now, Nanigans is saying that video ad spending on Facebook has increased 41% since Q3 of last year. So, want to market your business with the big boys on Facebook? Better get that wallet out to produce ads, and even more to promote them. Or, get creative in your marketing initiatives to save yourself some coin.

Twitter and Periscope Form Formidable Pair

If you aren't familiar with Periscope, it's another social media outlet that allows you to livestream video to your followers on other internet enabled devices. The quality of the video is such that the application is replacing in-the-field cameramen all over the country, as the reporters simply use their phones to record their blurbs in selfie-form. The ease of use of the application was one of the reasons Periscope was purchased by Twitter some time ago. Now, Periscope videos will play automatically in the Twitter timeline on iOS devices, with plans to roll out this feature to other mobile platforms in the immediate future. What does this mean for digital marketers? if used properly, this could be a very useful tool for differentiating your brand.

Sheryl Sandberg Donates $31 Million to Charity

To leave you on a positive note going into the weekend, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg recently donated $31 million to a wide range of charities. Sandberg's nonprofit, Lean In, will enjoy a portion of the donation, while educational charities and anti-poverty groups are expected to receive portions of the donation as well. So the next time you see Sheryl at the airport or public transit, be sure to give her a high five for her generosity!
